It is the purpose of the Baltimore Washington Society for Psychoanalysis, Inc., to advance the study and practice of psychoanalysis; to support psychoanalytic practice through outreach efforts and continuing education; to establish and maintain standards for the practice of psychoanalysis; to support postgraduate training of psychoanalysts through continuing education; to foster the integration of psychoanalysis with the mental health professions, branches of medicine, and academia; to encourage basic and applied research that enhances scientific understanding and human welfare; to serve the community by providing training, services and other resources.

Membership

Voting membership is open to graduates of the Baltimore Washington Institute for Psychoanalysis, Inc., and to graduates of accredited Institutes recognized by the American Psychoanalytic Association or the International Psychoanalytical Association. Voting membership is also open to Candidates in psychoanalytic training at the Baltimore Washington Institute for Psychoanalysis. Application for Voting membership may be made in writing to the secretary of the Society at the Sweitzer Lane address. Affiliate membership may be extended to persons

whose interests and professional work are closely associated with the field of psychoanalysis.

Continuing Education

The Baltimore Washington Society for Psychoanalysis frequently offers CME and CEU credits to psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers.  The following statement applies to CME credits, which are available for

participants in many of the Society’s programs.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of the American Psychoanalytic Association and the Baltimore Washington Society for Psychoanalysis, Inc. The American Psychoanalytic Association is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians and takes responsibility for the content, quality, and scientific integrity of its CME activities.

The American Psychoanalytic Association designates this educational activity for a maximum of one credit per hour in category 1 credit towards the AMA Physician’s Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity. Disclosure Information is on record indicating that participating faculty members have no significant financial relationships to disclose.

The Society is recognized by the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists as a sponsor of continuing education activities. The Society is recognized by the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners as a sponsor of continuing education activities.
